Tunki Rooftop, a Celebration with the Best Drinks in San Miguel de Allende

Casa de Sierra Nevada, a Belmond hotel located in the heart of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, celebrated this month the first anniversary of Tunki Rooftop by Handshake, joining the collection of illustrious bars around the world from Belmond, from Hotel Cipriani’s Bar Gabbiano in Venice to the Piano Bar at Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro.

The intimate cocktail lounge features innovative cocktails, authentic Peruvian cuisine, and unparalleled views of one of the world’s most emblematic cities, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.

The hotel’s new rooftop, in exclusive collaboration with Handshake, a legendary Mexican speakeasy recently recognized as one of the “50 best bars in the world” in 2022, brings elevated and creative mixology to the scene.

Named in honor of Peru’s official bird, Tunki Rooftop is a celebration of the union of two vibrant cultures, inspired by the regions of the Coast, the Jungle, and the Sierra, each with distinct personalities and flavors. The fusion of vibrant Mexican and Peruvian gastronomy creates an unparalleled culinary experience, as the authentic ingredients of both cultures combine perfectly to create an unforgettable blend of rich flavors.

Tequila Cocktail

The ‘Flowerbomb’ appetizer presented at Tunki Rooftop by Handshake was made with Tequila Ocho Blanco, Saint Germain, Orange Blossom, and Tonic.


The locally sourced menu showcases small tapas plates designed for sharing, from carretillero ceviche and trout tiradito in yellow chili sauce to charapa chaufa with glazed pork ribs and panchamanca chicken. The selected dessert was: Ponderación with lucuma ice cream, Suspiro with touches of pisco, or Mazamorra Brulée.

Mother Cocktail Bar @mothercocktailbar opened its doors almost 5 years ago with the intention of elevating the Canadian cocktail scene through the fundamental principles of fermentation and friendly, attentive service. Mother has been nominated twice as one of the top 10 international bars at Tales Of Cocktails and ranked 37th in the 50 Best of North America in 2022.

Massimo Zitti, @thirstydreamer, known as Massimo, has forged his path in the hospitality industry from an early age. Starting his career as a barista and progressing to roles such as server, bartender, manager, and co-owner of Mother Cocktail Bar & Secret Dinners in Toronto. Highlighting his personal achievements, Massi won the title of World Class Canada in 2022, ranking fifth worldwide, and transformed Mother into an exceptional destination for quality drinks, who will also be at the soft opening of Bambuco with the partnership of Handshake in Maroma.
