The project of the Silao-San Miguel de Allende highway is significantly advancing since its inception at the end of 2023.
The authorities are focused on developing this new route with the main objective of improving communication and connectivity in the state of Guanajuato. It is expected that this highway will not only expedite traffic between Silao and San Miguel de Allende but also contribute to the economic and tourist development of the region.
The toll route will start near the Guanajuato Bicentennial Park in the community of Los Rodríguez, as a continuation of Section II of the Silao Bypass. It will cross the vicinity of the Purísima dam, pass near Xoconostle, and lead into the northern area of San Miguel de Allende.
Additionally, it will allow the vehicular flow from the road coming from San Luis Potosí to take highway 45 at the height of Los Infantes without having to enter Silao. With the construction of this road, the toll booth of the Silao-Guanajuato highway will also be relocated.
Moreover, this new route will relieve traffic on Emiliano Zapata Boulevard and will achieve a travel time of approximately 30 minutes from Silao to San Miguel de Allende.
How is the Silao-San Miguel de Allende highway progressing?
Since 2023, it was announced that the initial section of the Silao-San Miguel de Allende highway would be built up to the community of Xoconostle and then continued.
The Silao administration released the permits for the layout of the section from the Metropolitan Axis to the connection with the General Motors assembly plant.
On the other hand, the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Connectivity, and Mobility (SICOM) has already obtained about 75 percent of the release of the lands where the Silao-San Miguel de Allende Road will be built.
José Tarcisio Rodríguez, head of SICOM, detailed that to execute the project, at least 80 percent of the right-of-way is required, that is, the release of the lands through which the Silao-San Miguel de Allende highway would cross.
“I would say works in process due to their own dimension, and I would remove the label of pending, due to the dynamic that the entity has of planning with a long-term vision and not by six-year term. And I would highlight the Silao-San Miguel highway as one of the great projects,” he commented.
The highway project, announced in 3 stages on federal highway 51 to form an industrial tourist corridor in the state and cataloged as the most important road work of the administration of Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, was scheduled to start its bidding since October of last year but due to the lack of release of right-of-way to a particular individual, it has not been able to materialize.
The authorities pointed out that the purpose of the Silao-San Miguel de Allende highway project is for the neighboring states of Querétaro and San Luis Potosí to have greater and better access to Silao, which will strengthen the arrival of tourists, the economy, and businesses.
Similarly, they seek to strengthen mobility in the Industrial Corridor, from Guanajuato to Mexico City and towards the northern part of the country.
