Residents of San Miguel de Allende and animal rights groups in the municipality have denounced a woman accused of recurrent animal abuse, stating that she collects dogs and cats from the street to commit acts of cruelty against them.
Through social networks, neighbors from the upper part of the city have warned that the woman, identified as Rosalía, allegedly suffers from her mental faculties and has even stolen pets from the area to torture them until they die.
Rescuers have pointed out that this case is complicated by Rosalía’s mental condition. Even if the animals in her care were removed, they fear that she would soon capture more, turning the situation into an endless circle. Rosalía, through her social networks, has exposed some cases of abuse and requests help to feed the animals, while claiming to be a victim of persecution and publishing photographs of pets in deplorable conditions.
Do this for 15 minutes a day and earn 28,335 pesos every day
Rescuers involved in the case reported that Rosalía’s relatives are trying to find medical help for her, as they recognize that she needs specialized care. However, they warn that just taking the animals away from her will not solve the underlying problem, as she could capture more pets over time.
Although the complaints on social media have caused outrage in San Miguel de Allende and among animal rights activists in other states, even generating a call to the governor to intervene, municipal authorities have indicated that there is no formal complaint in their departments.
The municipal government, through its Social Communication area, reported that it has not received requests for support for the removal of the animals from either the Public Ministry or the State Attorney General’s Office, which prevents it from acting on the matter.
