The construction work being carried out inside the Live Aqua Hotel in San Miguel de Allende, which is being carried out in a federal zone, has caused serious damage to the old 18th-century fulling mill located in the area. Personnel from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), led by Olga Adriana Hernández, conducted an on-site inspection and verified the damage to the more than 200-year-old building.
The construction of the 1.20-meter-wide walkway, which includes electrical installations, drainage, and planters, is progressing through the ecological preservation zone right next to the dam, where fills have also been made, apparently to create esplanades between the road and the reservoir.
The walkway, built with cobblestones and wooden beams, currently extends nearly 200 linear meters, stretching from the hotel to the old mill, part of which has already been demolished, as the walkway crosses the arches located in the stream bed.
According to residents of the upper part of the ravine, the work is being carried out at night and is progressing rapidly along the edge of the dam and the stream, leaving no one to know how far they intend to go.
