Alleged thief and con artist denounced on social media for attempting to steal a cell phone.
According to the person who reported the apparent attempted theft, the events unfolded as follows: in the city of San Miguel de Allende, a person was trying to sell a high-end cell phone, which they had advertised on social media. A man identified as “Engineer Ángel” then expressed interest in the item, and both the buyer and seller arranged a meeting to finalize the sale.
The meeting took place next to a bank, in a coffee shop. “Engineer Ángel” apparently claimed to be the owner of the establishment, engaging in actions that suggested this was true.
The seller handed the cell phone to the alleged thief, who, under the pretext of verifying the item’s origin, went upstairs to the second floor of the shop, saying that one of his employees would check if the phone was stolen.
The saleswoman’s instinct led her to approach the bar and ask the employees if the engineer, Ángel, was the owner of the establishment. They told her he was a man they had never seen before.
The engineer returned to the table with the cell phone, but without the box it had been given to him in. He then went back upstairs, and the saleswoman said she took the opportunity to put the phone in her bag.
The “swindler” returned with the box, but he had removed the IMEI number. When questioned by the customer, he denied it.
The saleswoman made it clear that she would not continue the sale and would leave. However, the engineer questioned her about why and apparently began to follow her. The saleswoman took out her cell phone and began recording and questioning the alleged thief and swindler.
Immediately afterward, the engineer, Ángel, ran from the scene and was apparently stopped a few meters away by a traffic officer, but he also escaped by continuing to run.
