Prosecutor’s office intensifies operations against adulterated alcohol in Guanajuato

Investigations into the alleged manufacture and sale of adulterated alcohol in Guanajuato continue to progress, according to Secretary of Government Jorge Jiménez Lona, who also stated that the State Attorney General’s Office recently conducted raids in Irapuato.

Jiménez Lona reported that the operations are part of the strategy to combat this crime and urged the public to avoid consuming alcoholic beverages of dubious origin.

“The Attorney General’s Office continues its investigation. Yesterday, we saw that some raids were carried out. It was in the city of Irapuato, and I cannot yet reveal what was found,” he stated.

The state official specified that the operations took place in Irapuato, but indicated that the results will remain confidential while the investigation continues. He also urged citizens to exercise extreme caution when purchasing alcoholic beverages and to be wary of offers with unusually low prices.

He also recommended checking that bottles show no signs of tampering before consuming them.

“It’s important to urge the public not to consume alcohol of dubious origin. There are no magic promotions. You have to check that the bottles aren’t pre-opened and, above all, stay informed about what’s happening around you,” he added.

Jiménez Lona also announced that the State Congress is analyzing initiatives to strengthen regulations on the alcoholic beverage market and prevent these types of illicit activities from continuing.

“I understand that the Congress is analyzing some reforms and initiatives to create greater controls on bottling and sales of alcohol, so that it can’t be done so easily and with such impunity,” he stated.

Meanwhile, in a separate interview, the Attorney General of Guanajuato, Gerardo Vázquez Alatriste, confirmed that the investigations stemming from these operations have already led to the arrest of individuals allegedly involved, although he insisted that the information cannot yet be made public because the investigation files are still being compiled.

Furthermore, he reiterated that no line of investigation has been ruled out and that authorities continue to strengthen their inquiries to identify all those responsible.

“We are making progress, as we have already mentioned, we have a suspect in custody. The investigation is still ongoing, and I ask that you not elaborate further because I cannot speak about it at this time. No line of investigation can be ruled out. It would be a grave mistake on my part to dismiss a line of investigation when the process is not yet complete,” he stated.

Vázquez Alatriste emphasized that citizen reports have been fundamental to advancing these types of investigations and assured that there is increasingly greater public participation.

“The culture of reporting is growing stronger. If society helps me and reports crimes, believe me, we will be able to move forward,” he concluded.
