SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, GUANAJUATO — A 60-year-old U.S. citizen reported missing after going for a walk in San Miguel de Allende was found dead on Sunday, August 2, following an intensive multi-agency search operation across local mountain terrain.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been publicly released by authorities, was last seen on Friday, July 31, between the rural communities of Las Tinajas and Agustín González. After his family reported him missing, local emergency services immediately activated a municipal search protocol.
The search effort expanded over the weekend to involve local police, civil protection units, the Red Cross, firefighters, state security forces, and a helicopter provided by the state Secretariat of Security and Peace. Rescuers navigated challenging conditions, as heavy afternoon rains, dense vegetation, and steep canyons hampered search operations across streams and reservoirs.
On Sunday morning, search teams located the man’s body submerged in a body of water in the Boca de la Cañada area. Authorities secured the scene and handed the site over to the Guanajuato Attorney General’s Office (Fiscalía General del Estado) for forensic processing and formal investigation.
