Guanajuato wines see opportunity in California and Texas.

Guanajuato wines could establish a presence in the United States through labels aimed at specialized consumers in California and Texas, said Ximena Seoane, general director of Hacienda San José Lavista.

In an interview with El Sol de León, the producer explained that the United States represents one of the largest wine markets in the world and has consumers interested in niche products.

Seoane considered that the approximately 600 hectares dedicated to wine production in Guanajuato make it possible to develop high-quality wines with their own identity and added value.

The state’s production scale, she explained, could become an advantage when entering market segments that are looking for wines different from those produced on a massive scale.

The story behind each bottle also represents an advantage for wineries in Guanajuato.

According to Seoane, these are projects built around family traditions, artisanal processes, and value chains involving producers, agricultural workers, winemakers, and service providers.

“They are products made with tradition and family stories, which also involve this entire value chain,” said Ximena Seoane, general director of Hacienda San José Lavista.

Guanajuato currently has 82 wine-producing projects, of which 27 offer tourism experiences. State production exceeds 1.6 million bottles annually.

San José Lavista Prepares for Its Harvest Festival

Hacienda San José Lavista will celebrate the 11th edition of its harvest festival on September 5 in San Miguel de Allende, featuring winery tours, wine tastings, and the traditional grape stomping ceremony, according to the official Vendimias Guanajuato 2026 calendar.

The event highlights the growing importance of Guanajuato’s wine industry, which combines production with tourism, family traditions, and artisanal winemaking.

The possibility of entering specialized markets in the United States could provide Guanajuato wineries with a new opportunity to expand their reach while maintaining the distinctive identity and traditions behind their wines.
