Mazatlán, Sinaloa.- At a press conference, the president of the Mazatlán DIF system , Gabriela Peña Chico, reported that the institution will open the Unit for the Protection of the Rights of the elderly.
Said unit will have within its powers, protect and promote the rights of the elderly, as well as guide, advise and assist juridically and legally in matters of security of property, food, and inheritance; also, provide psychological help to those who have suffered some type of violence by their relatives, neighbors or acquaintances.
“During this period at the head of the DIF System, we have witnessed unfortunate and sad experiences of abuse committed against the elderly. In some cases, sadly by their own relatives, ” said Peña Chico.
He added that this inclusive government is sensitive to this sector of the population, and taking into account these situations and stories of helplessness, led them to take action on the matter, understanding the need to promote a project for the protection of the Human Rights of the old people.
Peña Chico invited the State Congress to protect the rights of this vulnerable sector, reforming the law to include the authority of a Procurator for the Protection of the Rights of the Elderly.
He added that during the planning of this unit, they realized the gap and the need to update the Law of the Rights of Older Persons of Sinaloa.
The unit for the protection of the Rights of the elderly is located in the Citizen Security Center and will attend from Friday, February 19, from 8:00 in the morning to 4:00 in the afternoon.
