San Miguel de Allende “Alicia en Tolteca Landia” Honoring the Day of the Dead in Mexico

1005

By Patricia Rincón

The Myth Project: “Alicia en Tolteca Landia is a dance, theatrical and circus production conceived, directed and choreographed by the Distinguished Dance Teacher of the University of California in San Diego Patricia Rincón, counting as Assistant Director with the Actor and Director Christian Baumgartner. The work explores the magic of life and death and is inspired by what the Toltecs believed: “That life is a dream that we are always dreaming, even though we are awake.”

The performance will highlight and intensify the artistic expressions of the Day of the Dead in Mexico. As the Toltecs understood, to stop being a conventional human being it is necessary to travel through an intense process of metamorphosis, in which animal nature is left behind. This makes us dedicate ourselves only to the purity of the senses. If it is our purpose to be humanized and enlightened beings then we need to dedicate our strength, our time and our life to the spirit that manifests from our animal nature into an evolved human. Like the caterpillar that turns into a butterfly, transformation is a powerful journey to achieve this beauty. Transformation equals alchemy.

This choreographic journey experience at Casa de Europa will present unique art installations with performances by professional dancers, actors and circus performers, all set to original music, scenery and costume design. In fact, this imaginary and humanistic tale is suitable for both children and adults.

The Colectivo de Danza de Patricia Rincón is a non-profit cross-border organization. Funding for El Proyecto Mito: Alicia en Tolteca Landia is made possible by a grant from the University of California, San Diego, Certificate of Recognition for Research in the Arts, supported by Casa de Europa, and additional support from Casa Shala.

The Myth Project: Alicia en Tolteca Landia will feature local and international artists including Artistic Director Patricia Rincón; the actors Christian Baumgartner, Dianna Hoogesteger and Arturo Jiménez; the Professional Dancers Tara Casone Weinberg and Ximena Velasco Castro; the Performance Artist; MariOsa. A multidimensional dance, theater and circus cultural landscape to honor the ancient tradition of the Day of the Dead.
