Around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, the authorities of San Miguel de Allende received a report about the fire at the Hacienda Los Arcángeles event hall.

At that time, the party of Roberta del Río and Alejandro Teele was in full swing.

So far, the authorities have not specified the causes of the fire; however, the tent where the bride and groom and their guests were mingling began to burn. In seconds, the fire reached the tables, chairs, linens, and still-life decorations, causing the flames to spread rapidly to several meters high.

The guests panicked and began to run to protect themselves from the fire, according to videos that circulated on social networks.

Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene to attend to those affected.

The Secretariat of Citizen Security reported that five people were transferred to the hospital to receive treatment for burns and other injuries they presented, while 25 more were treated for smoke inhalation and nervous breakdowns.

Possible causes of the fire at the Hacienda Los Arcángeles

More than 24 hours after the event, the authorities have not informed what caused the fire; however, it is known that they are investigating two possible causes.

One version, which was disseminated by influencer Jacqueline Martínez through her social networks, suggests that the fire may have been accidentally started by a waiter lighting an alcohol shot.

In addition, the authorities of San Miguel de Allende reported that the fire could have been caused by a short circuit.

Who are Roberta del Río, heiress of La Comer, and Alejandro Teele, of Soriana?

Roberta del Río Peters is the heiress of the owner of the La Comer self-service store chain, thus a descendant of the founder Antonino González Abascal.

Alejandro Teele also comes from a family with a business lineage. He is the son of Ricardo Martín Bringas, the current head of Soriana.
