Homicides increase in San Miguel de Allende, Dolores Hidalgo and San Luis de la Paz

The Heritage City of San Miguel de Allende, the Magical Town of Dolores Hidalgo and the municipality of San Luis de la Paz have experienced an increase in homicides recorded throughout the first half of 2024.

In San Miguel de Allende, during the last weeks of June, seven people were killed in armed attacks where the attackers escaped on motorcycles.

The most recent event occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 30, when the driver of a pickup truck was shot to death on the outskirts of the Dr. Mora highway.

According to figures from the Executive Secretariat of the State Public Security System, as of May, 13 people had been victims of intentional homicide in this city.

By counting 20 murders in one semester, the figure has exceeded the 17 and 14 cases recorded in 2021 and 2022, respectively, although there is still a long way to go to reach the 29 victims of last year.

In Dolores Hidalgo, intentional homicides have gradually increased since 2022. From 15 victims in 2021, the number dropped to 5 in 2022, then increased to 8 in 2023 and reached 11 at the end of May 2024.

In June, two deaths by stabbing were recorded in separate incidents over a weekend.

San Luis de la Paz has also suffered an increase in violence. In 2021, violence claimed the lives of 29 people, but since then, homicides have been 16 in 2022, 17 in 2023 and 19 so far in 2024.

In June, the murder of a man was reported in the Lomas de la Paz neighborhood.

In the three municipalities, the Guanajuato State Attorney’s Office, through the Specialized Homicide Investigation Unit, is conducting investigations to clarify the events.

So far, the prosecution of those responsible for the recent homicides has not been announced.
