The increase in armed robberies in businesses in the town of Los Rodríguez has alerted residents of the area who are asking for a greater presence of Public Security and even the installation of a permanent booth on the site.
In the last week, messages of prevention in the face of the increase in assaults have been a constant among residents of the town, as there have been reports of several armed robberies in downtown stores in broad daylight.

“Yes, unfortunately there have been robberies, security has been neglected a lot at the national level and well, it is bad because at the end of the day we pay taxes for that,” said a merchant, whose store is located very close to the center of the community.
The most recent incident occurred in a shoe store, where armed subjects entered, last Saturday around 6 in the afternoon, to take the money from the day’s sales.
“Now one takes it as normal, I think that it is people who are passing by and see that there is no police or anyone to do anything and they take advantage (…) between neighbors we just encourage each other, because anyway what can we do?”, indicated the owner of the shoe store.
The merchants point out that there is not enough police presence, in addition to the fact that due to the number of inhabitants and being one of the largest communities in the municipality, there should be a command with a permanent presence of Public Security.
In addition to the robberies of businesses, there have been cases of assaults on passersby, among them workers from the neighboring community of Jesús María, 2 kilometers away, who on weekends walk to the ATM located at the exit of Los Rodríguez to collect their salary, and on their way back have been assaulted by armed men.
“They walk by because they are going to collect their pay, and they have reported in the (WhatsApp) groups that they are assaulted, they say that those who steal bring a squad (…) If I see someone strange, I report it, imagine someone working early to have the little they earn taken from them, it is not fair,” said a clothing merchant.
The town of Los Rodriguez is the largest community in the municipality, it has more than 3 thousand inhabitants and is located 17 kilometers from the municipal capital, on the road to Doctor Mora.
