San Miguel de Allende intensifies efforts to protect more than 113 thousand inhabitants from dengue

The Health Jurisdiction II of the Ministry of Health has reinforced efforts to combat dengue in San Miguel de Allende.

From June 12 to August 9, 8,000 homes have been intervened, 500 lots have been inspected and 9,450 people have been protected during larval control visits, reported Dr. Ligia Arce Padilla, Secretary of Health.

In addition, intra-domiciliary spraying activities have been carried out in 368 houses, providing direct protection to 3,749 San Miguel residents.

Arce Padilla added that, as for spatial fogging, it has covered more than 1,200 hectares in both rural and urban areas, thus protecting nearly 113,400 inhabitants.

In a context in which citizen collaboration is essential, the authorities call for strengthening the prevention strategy of “Wash, Cover, Turn Over and Throw Away.”

This approach seeks to reduce mosquito breeding grounds that, especially during the rainy season, proliferate in stagnant water.

The Secretary of Health reported that clearing out junk, washing patios and roofs, and allowing health personnel into homes are key actions that all citizens must adopt and carry out as a frequent task.

In an effort to contain the spread of dengue, the population is recommended to use mosquito repellent, long-sleeved clothing in light colors and light fabric, as well as installing mosquito nets on doors and windows.

Health authorities reiterate that the fight against dengue is a responsibility shared by all of society.

Health Jurisdiction II and the Secretary of Health will continue their efforts to guarantee the right to health of the population, while inviting everyone to be an active part in this fight.
