San Miguel de Allende will host the first edition of the “Allende International Jiu-Jitsu Tournament,” which continues to strengthen the city as a sports tourism destination both nationally and internationally, following the strategy set by Mayor Mauricio Trejo.
At a press conference, members of the Municipal Sports Commission (Comude) reported that the event will take place from September 5 to 7 at the Baby Vázquez Module and Hacienda los Picachos, with the participation of high-level athletes from cities such as Querétaro, Tijuana, Guadalajara, Monterrey and the capital of the country, as well as the United States and Central American countries.
It was also announced that San Miguel de Allende would become the first municipality in all of Mexico to host this international sports symposium, which will promote this discipline and also, for the first time, will award prizes in all its categories, from children to adults.
André Trejo, a young San Miguel native who has been a multi-champion in the discipline, explained that he expects a strong competition that will promote the sport in the city: “I expect a lot of success, that people will become more involved. In general, success for me, success for those who are going to compete. I see it very well, we have had a lot of support from the government, to be able to hold the tournament, without them we could not do this.”
In the same vein, the young Santino pointed out that they hope that Jiu-Jitsu will be promoted among the people of San Miguel: “I would really like people to recognize the effort that is made to have the level here in San Miguel. I feel that tourism will help a lot because people will come from many states, Central America and the United States.”
By working in favor of local athletes and positioning San Miguel de Allende as the venue for international events, the municipal government continues to promote world-class sporting events, with the goal of offering athletes better opportunities and that their comprehensive development is better every day.
