For this reason, on September 15, San Miguel de Allende will be dressed in green, white and red with a day full of patriotic activities that will attract thousands of visitors and locals to live a unique experience in the heart of this historic city.
The celebration begins with the “77 Traditional Symbolic Race,” a sporting event that will take place on Sunday, September 15, 2024. This race, unique in its kind, commemorates the journey of the jockey Ignacio Pérez, who rode from Querétaro to San Miguel de Allende to warn about the imminent start of the independence struggle. This event is a deep-rooted tradition for the people of San Miguel and represents a tribute to the heroes who began the fight for freedom.
The winning runners carry the symbolic fire from Querétaro; to do so, they leave at 3:00 p.m. heading to San Miguel de Allende. Upon arrival, during the night, the emotional “Cry of Independence Ceremony” takes place, led by Mayor Mauricio Trejo in front of the majestic Parish of San Miguel Arcángel, at 11:00 p.m., before thousands of attendees from all over the country and international tourists.
