Get Ready for Guanajuato’s FREE Night Tours During Day of the Dead

As part of the upcoming Guanajuato Day of the Dead Festival, visitors can enjoy FREE night tours of the historic Santa Paula Cemetery and the Museum of the Mummies. This unique experience will take place from October 31 to November 3.

Tour Schedule:

The guided tours will begin at 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the Santa Paula Cemetery, where visitors can explore the site where mummification began in 1861. The cemetery also features remarkable stone and marble sculptures, as well as the eternal resting place for prominent politicians, artists, social activists, and professors from Guanajuato.

Getting There:

To access the Museum of the Mummies, visitors will descend via the iconic spiral staircase at the old entrance.

Important Details:

*   Tickets are FREE and can be collected at the Guanajuato House of Culture between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

*   The tours are part of the Guanajuato Day of the Dead Festival’s activities, which include various other events and exhibits.

Road Closures in Guanajuato:

Due to the festival, some roads will be closed in Guanajuato. The Municipal Government has reported that Miguel Hidalgo Street (the Underground Street) will be closed from October 29 at midnight until November 4 at 4:00 a.m.

During this time, traffic will be diverted through the Los Ángeles tunnel towards Pozuelos and through the Eduardo Villaseñor tunnel towards Alonso Street. Other road closures and detours are planned for specific times during the festival.

Security Measures:

To ensure visitor safety, a security operation with 360 police elements will be deployed on Subterránea street, where most of the festival activities take place. Additional police presence will also be visible in municipal cemeteries throughout the event.

The security operation begins on October 31 and concludes in the early hours of November 4. Visitors are encouraged to plan their route and schedule accordingly to avoid any inconvenience. By participating in this unique experience, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of Guanajuato’s rich history and cultural heritage during the Day of the Dead celebrations.
