The “Best Tourist Destination of the Year” is transformed into a true spectacle of lights and tradition with the beautification of the city to enjoy the Christmas season with San Miguel essence.
Visualized by President Mauricio Trejo to turn San Miguel de Allende into a land of peace and hope for locals, visitors and tourists to live a different Christmas that honors master craftsmen, cultural heritage and traditions.
The Municipal Government has led this creative effort in coordination with the Public Services and Quality of Life departments, working together with the public lighting crew and the Environment and Sustainability department, which beautify every corner of the Heritage City.
“We are going to place more than 4,600 stars on different streets of our city, such as: Hidalgo, Relox, Canal, San Francisco, Umarán, Cuna de Allende, Correo, Corregidora, Sollano, Jesús, Aldama Street and of course Mesones Street. In the Main Garden you will be able to see series (luminous waterfalls), the kiosk that we also decorated (with stars) and in other streets (in the Historic Center). It is craftsmanship that we are placing, it is not something from a factory; normally we take care of all the decorations, but the stars receive more care (when they are placed). It is beautiful to return to what is so ours (the crafts) in brass and share it with all our visitors who take with them the magic of our San Miguel that they see as a seal the brass stars, which belong to the people of San Miguel” explained Laura Flores, head of Public Services and Quality of Life.
The central heart of the Christmas decoration is the typical craftsmanship. A total of 4,600 unique pieces of brass stars and hundreds of luminous waterfalls are the attraction of the historic, traditional and colorful streets of the historic center.
Public squares, medians, road accesses, urban parks and common areas of traditional neighborhoods and popular colonies are dressed in carmine red with poinsettia flowers, enriching the urban landscape and bringing joy to passersby. At the end of the December festivities, poinsettias will nourish the soil of the San Miguel territory by being used as compost.
The city that is Mexico’s ambassador to the world welcomes the Christmas spirit, immersing itself in the festive atmosphere that only San Miguel de Allende can offer. Whether strolling through the center, admiring the poinsettia flowers or contemplating the brass stars, every corner of the city is designed to create fond memories during this very special time.
The union of lights, colors and artisanal elements make the “Best Tourist Destination of the Year” an unparalleled experience that reflects the rich cultural heritage that promises an unforgettable Christmas in San Miguel de Allende, where we do things right.
