According to information released by the government of the state of Guanajuato, the consortium formed by the Guanajuato construction company VISE and the Spanish company Rubau, companies that won their respective international bidding processes, will have until next March to carry out the executive project for the Silao-San Miguel de Allende highway.
The state government explained that, from the start date of the concession, which began on September 23, 2024, the aforementioned consortium has up to six months to develop the highway and 30 months for its construction.
It was mentioned that with the executive projects completed, the required permits will be processed and then it will be possible to know when they plan to start the work, thus knowing the work schedule in which the preparatory work will be included, as well as the official start of the work.
The duration of each phase is determined by the concessionaire, as long as it remains within the established deadline for the completion and operation of the road and toll booth.
According to the project, construction is expected to last approximately two years. The highway would be ready to operate from the second quarter of 2027 and seeks to reduce travel times between both municipalities by more than 30 minutes thanks to a straighter layout, eliminating 36 curves in the 52.17 kilometer route.
The investment for the construction of the new road that will link the municipalities of Silao and San Miguel de Allende will be four thousand 349 million 767 thousand pesos.
The new toll highway will begin near the Guanajuato Bicentennial Park, specifically at the height of the community of Los Rodríguez, continuing from section II of the Silao Bypass.
The route will extend through the vicinity of the Purísima dam and will pass near the community of Xoconostle and will end in the northern area of the municipality of San Miguel de Allende.
The road will be a new alternative for drivers coming from the state of San Luis Potosí to avoid entering the municipality of Silao and to take federal highway 45 right at the height of the community of Los Infantes.
In addition, the construction of this road will entail the relocation of the current toll booth on the Silao-Guanajuato highway, increasing the number of lanes and thereby reducing the crossing time in both directions.
According to information from the Ministry of Public Works, 580 million 866 thousand pesos will be invested for the relocation and construction of the new toll booth and with it, 13.52 kilometers of the asphalt will also be rehabilitated, the central barrier will be replaced and more vertical and horizontal signage will be placed.
These works on the Silao-Guanajuato highway will begin in early 2025 and will conclude in the second quarter of 2026.
