Ford sponsored the third edition of Red Bull Guanajuato Cerro Abajo, the international urban cycling competition, leaving a pleasant taste in the mouths by complementing the event with spectacular initiatives.
The exciting day of street downhill riding had a fantastic setting, tracing its 1.6 km circuit through the historic alleys and steps of the capital of Guanajuato, reaching the esplanade of the famous Alhóndiga de Granaditas building.
After a spectacular descent, Colombian Juan Fer Vélez took the victory of this day, earning him the world championship crown.
Ford Performance was present, placing several vehicles as part of the challenges prepared along the route. The 37 world-class riders defied gravity and pushed their skills to the limit to dominate the circuit.
In addition to the many natural obstacles along the course, the competitors used their skills to the fullest to jump over the Ford Ranger Raptor, Ford Lobo Raptor, and Ford Bronco Raptor pickup trucks during their rapid descent to the finish line.
Another surprise prepared by Ford Performance was the presence of cyclist Johny Salido, part of the Ford Crew, who pushed his skills to the limit during his participation in the race.
The 15 finalists unleashed excitement among local and international fans who had the opportunity to enjoy the great competition.
Big names such as Tomas Slavik, Sebastian Holguín, Juan Fer Vélez, and Felipe Agurto stood out on the list, along with Mexican Alan Reyes, who qualified for the final of this event for the first time.
In the grand finale, the attention was focused on the Czech Tomas Slavik, leader of the standings after his victories at the previous stops and who was emerging as the favorite to take the title of international champion of the series. However, a mistake during his run in Guanajuato cost him first place.
On the penultimate run, Colombian Sebastian Holguín impressed with a flawless performance, breaking all previous records and emerging as the potential winner of the day.
However, Juan Fer Vélez’s final run was surprising, clocking a time of 1:47.257. This secured him first place in the series and earned him the international championship crown for the third consecutive year.
“It’s an honor to win the title for the third time; it’s something I didn’t even expect,” the Colombian declared after his victory.
