The State Government helps maximize remittances arriving in Guanajuato and supports migrants.

Given the importance of migrants to Guanajuato and in response to the uncertainty surrounding the United States government’s anti-immigrant policies, at the direction of Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, the People’s Government continues to strengthen its work with migrants and municipalities, because Guanajuato is a land of origin and hope for thousands of families supported by the work of those who migrated.

Through the Secretariat of Human Rights (SDH), the “Support Without Borders” program is in place. This program combines resources with migrants, through their remittances, and with municipal administrations to carry out basic infrastructure projects in their communities of origin, such as parks, streets, and streetlights, among others, which help improve the quality of life for their families. Remittances are a sign of the effort and love of the people of Guanajuato who continue to build their homeland, even when far from home.

Through this program, 15 projects were completed in 2024 with combined resources from migrants, municipalities, and the state government, totaling more than 26 million pesos. In 2025, an initial funding of 5 million pesos was allocated for 7 projects.

According to the Bank of Mexico report, in the first quarter of 2025, $1.218 billion in remittances arrived in the state of Guanajuato, an increase compared to the same period reported in the previous two years (in the first quarter of 2024, $1.176 billion was received, and in 2023, $1.173 billion was recorded).

The report highlights that the municipalities in the state that received the most remittances in the first quarter of 2025 are: León (US$135.4 million), San Luis de la Paz (US$119.2 million), Irapuato (US$67.1 million), Dolores Hidalgo (US$65.2 million), Celaya (US$57.2 million), and Valle de Santiago (US$54.8 million). These remittances are vital for the reactivation of the local economy, because every dollar that reaches Guanajuato supports dreams and projects in the state’s 46 municipalities.

In addition to these actions, since the change of government in the United States, the SDH has launched the Assisted Return Plan called “MigranTequiero,” which has served 481 people. 237 of these are Guanajuato migrants assisted through the Liaison Offices located in the United States due to possible deportations, and 244 are migrants returned to Guanajuato.

Governor Libia Dennise delivered the first 97 grants under this plan to deportees, totaling $1,530,537.96. These grants range from productive projects to start a business, economic support, educational services, and the issuance of identity documents such as birth certificates and INE credentials, among others.

With these actions, we in the People’s Government stand with Guanajuato migrants to continue to jointly improve their communities of origin, and we lend a hand when they are deported, because, as one of the points of our Decalogue states, we never forget who we are here for.
