Due to the violence unleashed by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in the state of Michoacán, the governor of Guanajuato, Libia García Muñoz Ledo, announced that a security operation will be implemented to reinforce the border areas. “We have a very important program, and we will soon be providing more details on strengthening our borders with other states,” she commented.
She added that they maintain constant communication with federal forces and with the governments of Guanajuato’s neighboring states. “Let them know that the implementation of this plan in Michoacán is also an important part of strengthening the security of our borders with Guanajuato, and that is what we are doing,” she stated.
On November 17, drug cartel roadblocks involving burning vehicles spread to two points along Federal Highway 90 in the municipality of Pénjamo. State security forces managed to prevent a third point from being blocked.
The governor also addressed the extortion suffered by construction business owners, acknowledging that “there is a large number of unreported cases.” She added that meetings will be held with representatives from this economic sector and the anti-extortion squad.
