The lack of information and uncertainty about the project raises doubts about the progress that led to the concession of the highway, which, with the Guanajuato-Silao toll booth, was added, said Deputy Ricardo Ferro
Guanajuato, Gto. The local deputy of Morena, Ricardo Ferro Baeza, said he does not know what is happening with the Silao-San Miguel de Allende highway project, since there are still complications for its execution, including the lack of total release of the right of way and the absence of a specific date for the start of work.
He said that approximately 18 kilometers of the route remain to be released, in addition to several hectares necessary to complete the affectation. He considered that, after what happened with the Boulevard de la Libertad in San Miguel de Allende, the authorities should have waited to have 100 percent of the release before starting the project.
“I have also said about the stroke (…) at first it was going to arrive and connect with the Boulevard de la Libertad, but they don’t say anything, and if there is that affectation, the route has to be moved again.”
Ferro Baeza also questioned the concession granted for the construction of the road and asked for a thorough review of the contracts, after it was announced that the State could provide additional resources, when originally the scheme contemplated that the work would be financed through the collection of tolls.
“If they don’t have all the liberation, why concede the highway? They continue to keep the resource of the toll booth. So, maybe you are already seeing that we are the voice of the people of Guanajuato, because really the people of Guanajuato capital are the ones who invite, so that they free that highway.”
He pointed out that the project has been in planning for more than 15 years and has faced various legal obstacles, including injunctions promoted by native peoples of San Miguel de Allende due to damage to ceremonial centers.
He also stressed the strategic importance of the road not only for San Miguel de Allende, but for municipalities such as San Luis de la Paz, Doctor Mora, and San José Iturbide, whose inhabitants must cross that area to move to Guanajuato capital, Silao, or León.
Finally, he warned that, if the release of the land and the clarity in the financial scheme are not resolved, the project could become another unfulfilled promise, affecting regional mobility and tourism development in the state.
“We made an injunction so that they release from the road, there is no need to take away that contract. Let’s see, if they see that it is no longer a business, they will no longer want to do it.”
