The Guanajuato Agricultural Improvement Committee (Comité Pro-Mejoración del Agro Guanajuato A.C.) announced the suspension of the mobilization it had planned for Monday, April 20, after reaching a series of agreements with federal authorities. The organization stated that it opted to prioritize institutional dialogue over street protests.

In a statement dated April 17, 2026, addressed “to the general public,” the organization reported that the decision was made after establishing commitments with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the National Water Commission (Conagua), the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), the Ministry of the Interior (Secretaría del Interior), and the Office of the President of Mexico.

In Guanajuato, heat waves are already being felt with increasing intensity in anticipation of the possible arrival of El Niño in 2026, making this a significant development. “We have decided to suspend the mobilization planned for Monday, April 20, 2026, prioritizing institutional channels and formal dialogue,” the committee stated in the document, in which it emphasized the openness shown by federal agencies in establishing working groups and following up on the sector’s proposals.

However, the organization made it clear that it will remain vigilant. “While there is still no certainty that the commitments will be fully met and within the established deadlines, our members will remain attentive, organized, and in constant communication,” it warned, while reiterating that any future demands will be made “firmly, peacefully, and within the framework of the law.”

Heatstroke is a serious concern, a condition that can be life-threatening if not addressed promptly.

The committee announced that it will continue participating in dialogue sessions with established support protocols and verification mechanisms, and that it will provide timely updates on progress or any potential breaches of agreements. The group also called on federal authorities and all involved parties to honor their word and implement the agreements reached.

In the statement, the group maintained that its position demonstrates that “our organization is fighting legitimately and responsibly to improve conditions in the agricultural sector, without partisan interests,” and expressed gratitude for the support of the public, the media, and the Mexican Agricultural Confederation. Finally, it reiterated its willingness to maintain a “constructive, formal, and honest” dialogue to translate the commitments into concrete benefits for Guanajuato’s agricultural sector.
