The case of Georgie, a contestant on the reality show “La Más Draga,” raised concerns in San Miguel de Allende after she reported that municipal police officers tried to prevent her from taking photos near the Parish Church and accused her of stealing a backpack.

Following the incident, state authorities issued a statement offering institutional support, noting that these events highlight the need to strengthen awareness training within law enforcement agencies.

The Undersecretary for Sexual and Gender Diversity of the State Government of Guanajuato, Ricardo García, addressed the case and reiterated institutional support for Georgie and the LGBTI+ community, while emphasizing the urgent need to strengthen police training with a human rights focus to prevent acts of discrimination.

He reported that previous actions had already been taken in the municipality, including training on sexual and gender diversity since December 2024, as well as dialogue with city council members to promote the creation of a specialized Municipal Unit.

“I offer the Municipal Unit our support and backing to move forward, hand in hand with local LGBTI+ collectives and associations that have a long history of promoting human rights in the municipality.”

It was also indicated that a training program for State Public Security Forces, focused on human rights, is currently underway to prevent acts of discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

Authorities also reiterated their willingness to work with local LGBTI+ collectives and organizations, as well as with the city council, to establish concrete agreements that prevent the recurrence of these types of situations.

The statement emphasized that so-called “pink tourism” represents a source of economic benefits that must be respected under equal conditions, underscoring the need to guarantee safe and inclusive spaces.

It was noted that these types of cases bring to light realities that are often not reported, and the institutional commitment to prevent similar events from happening again in Guanajuato was reiterated.

El llamado “turismo rosa”, destacado por autoridades estatales, posiciona a San Miguel de Allende como un destino incluyente que genera derrama económica y exige condiciones de respeto e igualdad para la población LGBTI+.
