A man claiming to be a Mexican diplomat stationed abroad, identified as David Rubén Escobar Anaya, acted arrogantly in San Miguel de Allende after attempting to enter the botanical garden without paying and being refused admission.
El Charco del Ingenio expressed its regret that the individual involved is a representative of Mexico abroad and reiterated that the garden does not grant preferential treatment nor justify behavior based on any person’s economic, professional, social, or national status.
“We witnessed inappropriate conduct by Mr. David Rubén Escobar Anaya, who identified himself as a Mexican diplomat stationed abroad. During his interaction with the Botanical Garden staff, he displayed attitudes contrary to the respect and dignified treatment we promote in this space,” they stated in a press release.
Mario Hernández, director of El Charco del Ingenio, recounted that the individual in question arrived at the garden accompanied by a young man and refused to pay the entrance fee, which is 100 pesos for tourists and free for San Miguel residents on Wednesdays and Sundays.
