The Secretary of Public Works for Guanajuato, Juan Pablo Pérez Beltrán, reported that the Silao-San Miguel de Allende highway project is still underway; however, the necessary environmental permits have not yet been obtained.
Therefore, the official assured that they are currently working with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat).
“We are currently processing the permits and obtaining the forestry and environmental permits. We are working with the national agency, Semarnat, and we are waiting for their approval. We have already worked with them, exchanged feedback, and completed the necessary steps,” he said.
The state official indicated that once the approval is granted, the project can be given the green light.
“Once we have the permit, we can begin the new highway project,” he stated.
He commented that the process has been complicated, but they have tried to resolve the issues and submit all the documentation requested by Semarnat.
The Silao-San Miguel de Allende highway project spans 51.17 kilometers and was designed to connect the industrial corridor with one of the most popular tourist destinations.
According to calculations by the state government, this project could reduce travel time by 30 minutes, and its estimated cost is 6 billion pesos. The construction will be carried out by the company VISE.
Finally, the official reiterated that this project is funded entirely by private, not public, resources.
