On June 14, San Miguel de Allende will celebrate one of its most iconic traditions: the Convite de Locos (Procession of the “Mad Ones”), a festivity that honors Saint Anthony of Padua and strengthens the municipality’s cultural identity.
The municipal government also highlighted that the celebration retains its religious and community roots. The tradition originated amidst orchards and patron saint festivities, where families and farmers fostered activities centered on social bonding and devotion.
Over the years, the so-called “locos” took center stage. These figures, clad in extravagant costumes, helped clear the way for traditional dances, while children gathered to receive the traditional pears.
