San Miguel de Allende is once again making headlines on the international stage, having become a finalist in the 2026 Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards, where it is competing for the title of “Most Desirable City Worldwide.” This distinction is awarded by the readers of the British magazine Wanderlust, a leading international travel publication.
Just weeks after making history by being named the World’s Best City for the third consecutive year in Travel + Leisure magazine’s 2026 World’s Best Awards, and after TripAdvisor recognized it as one of “The Best of Mexico” in its Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best 2026, San Miguel de Allende is once again raising Guanajuato’s profile internationally with this new nomination.
The Ministry of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI) reaffirms its commitment to continue promoting initiatives that strengthen the competitiveness, promotion, and quality of Guanajuato’s destinations.
This nomination confirms San Miguel de Allende’s position as one of the world’s top destinations for travelers, thanks to its well-preserved heritage, its rich cultural, culinary, and artistic offerings, and the renowned hospitality of its residents.
Furthermore, this recognition also reflects the collaborative effort between authorities, the private sector, tourism service providers, and the community to maintain San Miguel de Allende as a competitive and outstanding destination, capable of attracting both national and international visitors.
Voting will remain open until October 27, 2026, and residents of Guanajuato, as well as those who have visited and enjoy this destination, are invited to cast their vote and support San Miguel de Allende in this international competition.
