SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, Gto. — Prominent local architect Ángel Gastélum has officially registered for the Personas Defensoras de la Patria, la Familia y la Libertad (Defenders of the Homeland, Family, and Freedom) initiative, signaling his continued commitment to public engagement and community development in San Miguel de Allende.
Organized by the National Action Party (PAN), the initiative aims to incorporate citizen profiles across Guanajuato into civic and policymaking frameworks. By formalizing his participation, Gastélum seeks to contribute his professional expertise, promote administrative transparency, and advocate for municipal growth centered on family values and historical preservation.
Born in 1967, Gastélum is a lifelong resident of San Miguel de Allende. During his registration, he highlighted his deep roots in the community, emphasizing his 32-year marriage, his role as a father of two, and his parents’ local legacy—his father having worked on the historic railway line construction and his mother having served as a long-time English teacher at the Fray Pedro de Gante elementary school.
Professionally, Gastélum’s career is closely linked with the preservation of the city’s heritage. Among his notable achievements was his pivotal role in drafting the technical dossier that secured San Miguel de Allende’s designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. He noted that this milestone deepened his commitment to protecting the municipality’s unique architectural and cultural identity.
“My contribution will be transparency, honesty, and hard work for San Miguel de Allende,” Gastélum stated, adding that active citizen participation is essential for building inclusive proposals that directly impact the community’s future.
