León, Guanajuato.- Due to the high levels of violence and organized crime, the Government of Canada asked its citizens to avoid non-essential travel in 13 states of Mexico, including federal highway 45, between León and Irapuato and between Irapuato and Celaya.

In the case of Guanajuato, the travel recommendation is on the following sections of federal highway 45: between León and Irapuato and between Irapuato and Celaya (toll).

The Government of Canada travel alert updated to October 14 on its official website recommends avoiding non-essential travel to the following areas:

  • All Chihuahua.
  • All of Colima, except the city of Manzanillo.
  • All of Coahuila, except the southern part of the state in and below the Saltillo-Torreón road corridor.
  • All of Durango, except the city of Durango.
  • All Guerrero, except the cities of Ixtapa, Zihuatanejo and Taxco.
  • In Guanajuato: Highway 45 between León and Irapuato.
  • In Guanajuato: the area to the south and including highway 45D between Irapuato and Celaya.
  • All of Michoacán, except the city of Morelia.
  • In Morelos: Lagunas de Zempoala National Park and surroundings.
  • In Nayarit: The area within 20 kilometers of the border with Sinaloa and Durango and the city of Tepic.
  • All of Nuevo León, except the city of Monterrey.
  • All of Sinaloa, except the city of Mazatlán.
  • All of Sonora, except the cities of Hermosillo and Guaymas, San Carlos and Puerto Peñasco.
