The number of weddings that took place in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, increased from 766, in 2022 to 834, in 2023, generating a positive impact on the local economy, according to figures from the municipal Directorate of Economic Development and Tourism.
It considered that romance tourism in that magical town has experienced remarkable growth in the last two years, which has benefited the value chain, by encouraging the acquisition of local services for weddings from Mexico and abroad.
The dependency highlighted that the economic spill that romance tourism leaves is reflected in hotel reservations, visits to restaurants, craft markets, vineyards, hot springs; practice of adventure tourism, among other activities.
“It is an economy that goes down and permeates all the sanmiguelense and we continue to reinforce that the first contact is with the local provider”, stressed Tania Castillo, head of the Directorate of Economic Development and Tourism.
With its impressive colonial architecture, San Miguel de Allende, a city classified as a cultural heritage of humanity, consolidates itself as it remains one of the most romantic destinations in the world.
Castillo mentioned that the number of venues in San Miguel de Allende continues to grow, different options in the center (historic), in houses, in vineyards, in haciendas. “We have between 15 and 20 weddings per weekend,” she said.
