With the agreement signed between Guanajuato and San Luis Potosí, security forces from both states will be able to cross state borders to arrest criminals during pursuits.
“Now with this agreement, both San Luis Potosí and Guanajuato have the authority to continue pursuing crimes and deliver results to the public,” said Jorge Jiménez Lona, Secretary of Government.
He explained that the agreement “is broader; it not only addresses crime, but also training and human rights, where we will be sharing information.”
Regarding the importance of the area, he emphasized that this coordination agreement will help curb crime.
“Highway 57 is the busiest highway in our state and obviously passes through Querétaro, Guanajuato, and San Luis Potosí; the security strategy will help us greatly to continue reducing crime.”
He noted that similar agreements already exist with Jalisco and that “the coordinated work and intelligence are bearing fruit,” asserting that “we have seen a 60% reduction in homicides compared to other periods.”
