The violence continues unabated in Valle de Santiago, and on Saturday afternoon, seven people were killed in a direct attack that also left a young man seriously injured.
The incident occurred in the community of Las Jícamas, where an armed attack was reported minutes before 7:00 p.m. on 16 de Septiembre Street.
According to information from the Valle de Santiago Public Security Police Station, the victims were socializing in public when an armed group arrived at the scene and fired several shots.
The 911 Report
Neighbors in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots, so they immediately notified the 911 emergency system.
Preventive Police officers were the first to arrive and, upon verifying what had happened, cordoned off the area while awaiting emergency services.
Paramedics from various groups later arrived and examined the eight people present at the scene. After the assessment, they confirmed that seven of them no longer had vital signs.
Meanwhile, the injured person was rushed to a hospital in Valle de Santiago, where his condition is reported to be serious.
Victims and Injured Persons
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased. The injured person was identified as Jesús Santiago, 22, who received immediate medical attention and remains under observation.
The area was secured by agents from the Criminal Investigation Agency, members of the State Public Security Forces, the National Guard, and the Preventive Police, who continue their investigation and security efforts.
According to initial reports, the men were gathered when armed individuals in a pickup truck arrived at the scene and fired directly at them. After the attack, the perpetrators reportedly fled toward the municipality of Yuriria.
Ministry authorities are working to gather evidence to determine the motive for the attack and the possible identity of the attackers.
The community of Las Jícamas is located in a rural area of Valle de Santiago, bordering Puerto del Águila, in the municipality of Yuriria, and is considered one of the most remote communities in the municipality.
The attack there prompted a large mobilization of state and federal security forces, while ministry authorities conducted the necessary forensic examinations for the investigation.
The Public Ministry was in charge of the investigation and the removal of the bodies, which were transferred to the Forensic Medical Service pending official identification by their families.
