The “most beautiful city in the world” is preparing for an unprecedented sporting event. This December 6th, San Miguel de Allende will host track number 17 of the Mexican Editorial Organization (OEM) Running Circuit 2025. This event features a unique twist: it will be the circuit’s first night race, inviting runners to run through its heritage streets under warm lighting.
The five-kilometer route will start at 6:00 p.m. from the Allende Main Garden esplanade, in the heart of the city’s downtown area, and will extend through the city’s main historic streets. The measured and certified route will allow participants to enjoy sports in an architectural setting world-renowned for its colonial aesthetic and its awards as “Best Small City in the World” (Travel + Leisure) and “World Heritage Destination” by UNESCO.
In this way, San Miguel de Allende not only embraces sport but also invites you to a sensory experience: running among baroque temples, colonial mansions, and cobblestone streets illuminated for the occasion. The Municipal Sports Commission (COMUDE), together with the OEM, aims to combine tourism, health, and culture, promoting exercise while exploring the destination’s architectural richness.
The event will have four categories: Youth (12 to 17 years old), Open (18 to 39), Master (40 to 49), and Master B (50 and over), both for men and women. Runners will receive their participant kit—a T-shirt, medal, backpack, chip, and number—which will be delivered on Friday, December 5th, at the COMUDE San Miguel de Allende facilities.
Registration remains open for in-person and online (San Miguel Race) with tiered costs ranging from 250 to 350 pesos, depending on the date.
This event is part of the national calendar and has already passed through Tabasco, Querétaro, Puebla, La Laguna, and other states, but San Miguel de Allende will be the jewel of the circuit, offering an unparalleled nighttime spectacle. Racing here will be, in addition to a sporting challenge, an opportunity to experience Mexico’s art, history, and architectural heritage at every turn.
