More than 200 U.S. citizens residing in San Miguel de Allende expressed their condemnation of the growing authoritarianism and human rights abuses of the Donald Trump administration at a protest called “No Kings 2.0” held in front of the city’s consular office.

Holding signs and wearing T-shirts alluding to the movement, the U.S. residents expressed their support for migrant families and their rejection of deportations, while singing and chanting slogans against the policies promoted by their country’s government.

The mobilization is part of a global protest in which cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as well as several European countries, participated in defense of the human rights of citizens and migrants.

In Mexico, mobilizations were reported in Ensenada and San Felipe, Baja California; Guadalajara and Lake Chapala, Jalisco; Oaxaca, Oaxaca; Mérida, Yucatán; Mexico City at the American Embassy and in San Miguel de Allende.
