León and San Miguel de Allende will host Guanajuato Wine Week from June 2nd to 7th. The program includes not only tastings and pairings, but also workshops, the celebration of International Sommelier Day, the National Sommelier Competition, music, food, and vineyard tours. An attendance of over 3,000 people and an economic impact of more than 8 million pesos are expected.

The participating wineries are: Dos Búhos; Viñedos San Miguel, Paraíso, Tres Raíces, Guaname, Cuna de Tierra, Viñedos los Arcángeles, Cava Manchón, San José La Vista, Puente Josefa, Viñamar, Santísima Trinidad, Casa Reyes, Los Remedios, and Tierra de Luz.

David Ayala Saucedo, Undersecretary of Identity and Tourism Development for the Guanajuato Ministry of Tourism and Identity (SECTURI), mentioned that with this event, Guanajuato is achieving leadership in the recognition of its wines in collaboration with other neighboring states.

“In this leadership that we are achieving at the national level as a region and state—because no other state has the recognition of our wines, and our vineyards and wineries deserve it—we must draw on the support of neighboring states like Aguascalientes, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, and Zacatecas, which have looked to us as a benchmark but are seeking what we have begun to build: an ecosystem that promotes wine tourism in the state,” he stated.

On June 2nd, the Wine Tourism Ambassadors Meeting will take place, bringing together frontline staff from restaurants, hotels, travel agencies, students, and content creators who will become wine tourism ambassadors and experience firsthand what Guanajuato has to offer in grapes and wine. The event will be held at La Libélula in Parque Explora.

It will be a theoretical course on wine tourism. The ambassadors will learn about the subject and how to share this knowledge with consumers and tourists. The training will be divided into three stages: a theoretical session, where they will learn about the wine tourism landscape of Guanajuato; the launch of the wine tourism passport; guided tours to learn about wine tourism projects, tastings, and pairings; and a rally where they will experience immersive activities at wineries.

On June 3rd, San Miguel de Allende will celebrate International Sommelier Day with various activities, including a master class on Guanajuato wines; a roundtable discussion on wine consumption worldwide; training, tastings, and experiences with different Guanajuato wineries; a casino-style activity; and the presentation of awards recognizing outstanding contributions to the wine industry. Three awards will be presented to sommeliers, winemakers, and wineries.

The National Competition for Best Sommelier will also take place. The goal is to identify and select the professional who will represent Mexico in the Best Sommelier of the World competition, to be held in October in Lisbon, Portugal. The winner will receive a trip to Bordeaux, France, one of the most demanding wine regions, for training.

On June 4th, in León, the Guanajuato en la Mesa event will take place, featuring five restaurants: Sato, La Vaca Argentina, Argentilia, Gaucho Calzada, and Casa Biznaga, paired with wineries Dos Búhos, Viñedos San Miguel, Paraíso, Tres Raíces, Guaname, Cuna de Tierra, Viñedos los Arcángeles, Cava Manchón, San José La Vista, Puente Josefa, Viñamar, Santísima Trinidad, Casa Reyes, Los Remedios, and Tierra de Luz.

Each restaurant will offer an intimate pairing experience with the wines and cuisine of these establishments, selecting three wines and three iconic dishes.

This event aims to position Guanajuato as a unique destination where wine, gastronomy, and tourism come together.

On June 5th and 6th, in the MX District, in León, specifically at the Terrace of Nations, Sabor a Vid will become a wine tourism and gastronomic experience that will integrate immersive experiences, sensory tours, 26 tastings and interactive spaces to bring the public closer to the wine development of Guanajuato and consolidate the state as a national reference for wine tourism.

This is a public event featuring a pavilion called the World of Wine, which includes interactive experiences about the history of wine, the first wine press in Guanajuato, 15 wine aromas, and workshops on creating wine blends, bottling, custom label design, and corking. Food, music, and fine wine will also be available.

On June 7, 150 wine ambassadors will have the opportunity to visit six vineyards to explore wine routes, participate in guided tastings, and more, in vineyards located in Dolores Hidalgo, San Miguel de Allende, Comonfort, León, and San Felipe.

“In 2025, Guanajuato registered 23.8 million visitors and an economic impact exceeding 57 million pesos. With this strategy, we aim to continue boosting these numbers by 2026; this represents our vision of connecting wine and creating a wine tourism ecosystem, promoting culture and gastronomy in different regions of the state,” emphasized David Ayala.
