The Undersecretary for Sexual and Gender Diversity of the Guanajuato government, Ricardo García, indicated that 890 responses were obtained as part of the Survey on Discrimination against LGBTTTIQ+ People in the state’s 46 municipalities.
The official highlighted that this result was achieved thanks to the work and outreach carried out by LGBTQ+ organizations, in which 18 statewide organizations and only 1 federal organization participated.
He also emphasized that this achievement is also due to the work of the sexual and gender diversity units in each municipality.
Ricardo García explained that this survey aims to identify the vulnerabilities and acts of discrimination experienced by LGBTQ+ people.
“Some municipalities made a point of showcasing all the efforts they invested and coordinated within their municipal government to disseminate this survey,” he stated.
The official acknowledged that this is the first time a survey of this kind has been conducted in Guanajuato, making it a historic event. It was implemented openly so that any person of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities could voluntarily participate.
Finally, Ricardo García commented that this work was carried out through multiple working groups with the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), as this institution provided feedback during the preliminary phase of the survey.
