A violent incident unfolded on the night of Wednesday, August 13, 2026, along the highway connecting Valle de Santiago and Yuriria in Guanajuato, where an armed group set fire to a passenger bus following a high-speed chase.
According to initial security reports, federal agents from the Guardia Nacional attempted to intercept a group of armed suspects during routine patrols in the region. Upon noticing the presence of law enforcement, the individuals opened fire and attempted to flee, triggering an intense pursuit along the roadway.
Vehicle Hijacked and Torched
During their attempt to escape capture, the armed assailants forced a public transport vehicle—belonging to the Valle de Santiago-La Magdalena route—to pull over. They ordered the driver and any passengers on board to immediately step down before dousing the vehicle in fuel and setting it ablaze.
