Five killed in a “taquería” in Irapuato, Guanajuato

Five people were shot to death in a taqueria in the municipality of Irapuato, Guanajuato, considered the most violent state in Mexico, authorities reported on Tuesday, September 22nd.

The events occurred at dawn this Tuesday, when a group of armed people arrived at the taqueria “Los Cuñados” and fired at the diners.

Five people died at the scene and one more, 33 years old, ended up seriously injured, for which he was transferred to a hospital, according to municipal authorities.


During the first eight months of the year, Guanajuato, the bastion of the automotive industry in Mexico, remains in the lead in homicides: from January to August a total of 3,032 people have been murdered in the state.

This figure represents 13% of the total cases reported nationwide before the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).

According to the Guanajuato police authorities, 9 out of 10 murders that occur in this region are linked to organized crime.
