In a new episode of violence in Guanajuato, three brothers who were agents of the State Public Security Forces (FSPE) were murdered early Tuesday morning in the Ex Hacienda El Sauz community, in the municipality of Guanajuato capital.
With these homicides, the number of police officers killed in the state during 2024 rises to 59, consolidating itself as one of the most violent years for security corporations in the entity.
Simultaneous attack and planned execution
The Secretary of Security of Guanajuato capital, Samuel Ugalde García, confirmed that the three brothers were murdered in their respective homes, in a simultaneous attack perpetrated by armed men who broke into the homes to carry out the crime.
The events occurred around three in the morning, when neighbors reported a series of explosions in the community to the 911 emergency number.
“They were in three different houses, there is a male in each one who died, apparently from gunshot wounds. The three are brothers and were state agents,” said Ugalde.
According to preliminary reports, at least four trucks with armed subjects arrived in the community and entered the agents’ houses in a coordinated manner.
After committing the murders, the perpetrators fled the scene, leaving behind two abandoned vehicles, one of them with homemade armor.
Trucks seized during operation
Local and state authorities mounted a search operation in the area, finding two abandoned trucks near the El Coyote community.
One of them, a Volkswagen Taos, had a theft report in the municipality of Jerécuaro, while another truck, a white Chevrolet Silverado, had homemade armor.
“We think they abandoned it because one of the tires was punctured,” added Ugalde when detailing the operation.
Collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office and possible links
The Secretariat of Public Security and Peace of Guanajuato issued a statement confirming the murders and assuring that they are already collaborating with the Attorney General’s Office to clarify the events. The agency did not rule out that the crimes could be related to the professional activities of the agents or to personal matters.
“Information is being gathered to determine if the crime is related to their professional or personal activities,” the statement said.
Another recent case: agent and her daughter murdered in Abasolo
This tragic episode adds to the murder of another state agent that occurred last week in the municipality of Abasolo, where the officer was executed along with her 16-year-old daughter. These events reflect the level of risk to which security elements are exposed in Guanajuato, a state that faces high rates of violence attributed to organized crime.
The authorities reiterated their commitment to clarify the events and arrest those responsible, while violence continues to affect both the security forces and the civilian population in the state.
