To promote national tourism and the domestic market, Querétaro will participate in the Great Escape campaign. This is an initiative of the federal government and business chambers seeking to position it as the Buen Fin del Turismo (Good End of Tourism).
The strategy is promoted by the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), the Ministry of Economy (SE), and the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services, and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur). It will take place from May 30 to June 1, a period during which companies in the sector will announce their offerings.
One of the goals is to strengthen domestic tourism and the local economy; therefore, state and municipal agencies will also participate, explained Rocío Hernández Romero, state coordinator of Concanaco and president of the National Chamber of Commerce, Services, and Tourism in San Juan del Río.
“The idea is for all tourism-related businesses to register for this platform, for this campaign; and for us, as tourists, to dedicate ourselves to purchasing a package, a trip, or a reservation. (…) We’re going to buy the package or that promotion that we can use throughout the year,” she explained.
The initiative seeks to integrate the offerings of hotels, tour operators, travel agencies, airlines, and other tourism-related businesses, explained Lorena Muñoz Altamira, president of the Querétaro Chamber of Commerce.
“The registration process is very simple; they must comply with the formalities, (the companies) must be registered with the tax authorities, etc. The suggestion is that they be registered in the national tourism registry,” she explained.
Businesses that will join the campaign will register from April 15 to 29. They can do so through the official website www.lagranescapada.com.mx.
The promotional season will run from May 30th to June 1st of this year.
“This is the period during which consumers will be able to purchase travel packages that can boost the local economy of the states, (…) especially to promote tourism within Mexico,” Lorena Muñoz stated.
During the Great Escape, products and services will be promoted to boost the domestic market during the off-season.
Tourists will have access to tour packages, promotions, discounts, preferential rates at hotels and restaurants, as well as land and air transportation.
Through this project, Querétaro is estimated to capture an economic impact of 1 billion pesos; 300 companies are expected to participate, including airlines, travel agencies, and other businesses.
Up to 80% of the tourists visiting Querétaro are domestic travelers, primarily from Mexico City and the Metropolitan Area, explained Rodrigo Ibarra Lozano, Director of Tourism Promotion for the state Tourism Secretariat.
“Querétaro has a wide and diverse range of tourist attractions, with experiences in culture, gastronomy, Magical Towns, the Art Route, and Cheese and Wine. Querétaro’s tourism infrastructure is expanding, making us an ideal destination for those looking to take these getaways or trips,” he stated.
