San Miguel residents joined the national protest to demand the annulment of the June 1 election, considering it illegitimate and illegal.
Cristina Chong, a member of the Fuerza Rosa movement, stated that they are requesting the annulment of the magistrate election, as they point out that at least 23 irregularities were detected that support the illegality of the process.
“We know there was fraud; it’s proven. Now the objective of our protests is to demand its annulment because this June 1 election had at least 23 elements that indicated it was invalid (…) it bothers us that this government has facilitated things that go against the citizens,” she stated.
The protesters gathered outside the INE offices in San Miguel de Allende and marched to Conspiracy Boulevard, where they distributed leaflets and made messages with a loudspeaker so drivers and passersby could hear them.
“Don’t be afraid, they’re not going to take away your social programs. Speak up, get informed, and realize what’s happening,” they said.
Cristina Chong shared that the main objective is to inform the population: “It’s not about going against them and continuing to divide, it’s about informing because the monster we have to fight isn’t the government—it’s about making them feel less important, it’s about national apathy.” Therefore, the members of the movement, mostly women, came to talk to people about the election and the laws recently passed in Congress, which they describe as illegal.
