Francisco Santana Rubio won the 5K race, the 17th event in the 2025 OEM Running Circuit, held in the beautiful city of San Miguel de Allende. The San Miguel native, representing Club Ikal, took first place with a time of 16 minutes and 22 seconds and received his medal from Óscar Reyes Rodríguez, OEM’s director in Guanajuato.

“It feels like a joy… We’d never run at this time of day in San Miguel, and we’d always run through traffic, but this time the road safety was good… It was a good race,” said the winner and experienced runner, who has been involved in athletics for a decade.

This race, organized by El Sol del Bajío, is part of a 19-race series in the national circuit, which began in February and concludes in December with the Guadalupano Marathon in Aguascalientes.

This Saturday, December 6th, at 6:00 PM, Oscar Reyes Rodríguez, director of OEM Guanajuato, gave the starting signal to dozens of runners who took to the streets of the Heritage City in this nighttime race.

The race began in front of the iconic Parish of San Miguel Arcángel, which was illuminated to welcome the runners preparing for the 5-kilometer challenge.

The streets of Correo, Murillo, San Francisco, Canal, Zacateros, and Ancha de San Antonio, before joining Salida a Celaya, where the turnaround point was located in front of City Market, were part of the circuit designed to be safe and visually appealing.

This route allowed the athletes to experience something different from their usual daily commute through the city center.

The most celebrated moment of the final stretch was crossing the Umarán Bridge, where dozens of spectators cheered on the participants as they headed towards the finish line, once again located in the esplanade of the Parish.

All runners received a commemorative medal and a recovery kit.

This circuit is organized by local newspapers of the Mexican Editorial Organization (OEM), with three half-mile races in various cities across the country.

The final two races of the 2025 OEM Running Circuit will be in San Luis Potosí on December 10th and Aguascalientes on December 12th with the Guadalupano Marathon.
