What is measles?

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that is transmitted through the air by coughing, sneezing, or talking.

It primarily affects children, but can also occur in unvaccinated adults or those with incomplete vaccination schedules. It is preventable through the triple viral vaccine (MMR), which protects against measles, rubella, and mumps.

How to detect measles?

The most common symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, runny nose, conjunctivitis, and a rash that begins on the face and spreads to the body. Small white spots, known as Koplik spots, may also appear on the inside of the cheeks.

Diagnosis is confirmed by laboratory tests that detect antibodies or the presence of the virus.
