In order to increase tourism growth, five new airports will be built in the country: Baja California, San Miguel de Allende, Jalisco, and Quintana Roo.
Carlos Manuel Merino Campos, director of Airports and Auxiliary Services (ASA), reported that in the cities of Ensenada, Baja California, and San Miguel de Allende, there is interest from the state government, municipalities, and local business leaders in carrying out this project, aiming to create a hub for regional development and greater economic growth.
In the case of Jalisco, two airports are planned: one in the Costa Alegre area, which has tourism potential, and another in the Lagos de Moreno region, with a logistics focus.
Merino Campos indicated that the other airport being planned will be in Quintana Roo; however, the location has yet to be determined, but it is expected to be on Isla Mujeres or in the north of the state.
It’s worth noting that in some cases, feasibility studies have already been conducted, which would require land ranging from 500 to 1,000 hectares.
